Boston Gear® stock helical gears are manufactured in both right- and left-handed configurations with an industry standard 45 deg helix angle to transmit motion and power between non-intersecting shafts that are parallel or at 90 deg to each other. For parallel shaft operation, helical gears with opposite-hand helix angles are required. For shafts at 90 deg , a same-hand helix angles must be used. For parallel shaft applications, the overlapping tooth contact of our helical gears provides smoother, quieter operation and higher horsepower capacity than spur gears of comparable size. For 90 deg shaft applications, the tooth-contact area of helical gears is very small, making it ideal for applications requiring only limited load carrying capacity.

Boston Gear® Helical Gear With Keyway, Hardened Plain Spiral Tooth, 1/2 in Bore Dia, 1.14 in Outside Dia, 10 Teeth, 10 Diametral Pitch, 1 in, 7/8 in Face Width, Left Hand Direction of Rotation, 14.5 deg Pressure Angle, 1/8 X 1/16 in Keyway, Steel

  • Improved tooth strength due to the elongated helical wrap-around
  • Increased contact ratio due to the axial tooth overlap
  • Helical gears tend to have greater load carrying capacity than spur gears of similar size
  • Due to the above, smoother operating characteristics are apparent
